01/03/03: I've been to lots of them...

In my younger days, I spent a lot of time in Mexico.

Most Americans don't care for bullfighting, seeing it as a cruel and unfair contest between man and beast. Of course, to the Mexicans bullfights symbolize the classic and eternal battle between good and evil. Mexicans find it quite offensive when ignorant Yanquis cheer for the bull. They don't understand the gringos penchant for pulling for the underdog. The Mexicans see the American behavior as rooting for the devil over God.

If you ever go to a bullfight, spend the extra pesos necessary to sit on the shady side of the corrida. It gets hotter than hell if you sit in the sun all afternoon. There's plenty of good food and cold beer available but it does get pretty gory at times.
