Sure, the main story line involved two men playing with a woman's affections (and F**king with her mind, to boot). But, I thought the story evolved to show that it wasn't ALL men who were evil, it was this *one* guy (Chad) who manipulated everyone around him because he himself was a scumbag.
If you remember, the more timid of the pair of men (Howard) suddenly began experiencing problems at work after he agreed to help Chad. His faxes were mysteriously not going through; he found this out from Chad, who just happened to mention how he made sure the faxes got sent. Howard's reports were suddenly getting messed up; again, conveniently it was Chad who discovered the problem and fixed it for him. Every time there was a problem, Chad was the one who "discovered" it and made himself out to be the hero.
In addition, Howard had backed out of the deal. He ended up confessing the whole thing to Christine because his guilt got the better of him. In the end, Howard lost the girl (Christine), lost his self-respect, and eventually lost his job, thanks to the behind-the-scenes manipulations by Chad. (In fact, wasn't it Chad who got the promotion Howard had been working for?)
And as for Christine, what did she do wrong? Two men asked her out at the same time, she had dinner/lunch dates with both. She went for Chad, not because he was the handomer of the However, after she became sexually involved with Chad, she told Howard. I believe she hesitated at first, but only because she didn't want to hurt Howard's feelings. I don't see anything wrong with that. Are women only allowed to have lunch/dinner with ONE man at a time?
In my humble opinion, IN THE COMPANY OF MEN doesn't demonstrate that ALL men are evil, it demonstrates that men like CHAD are evil.
