I believe Team America to be one of the best comedies I have ever seen. Both sides of the American political equation were targets of Parker and Stone. Which side was skewered more depends much on one's point of view. Note that this film wasn't Democrat vs. Republican, it was hawks vs. doves. And frankly, the people and policies sent up by Parker and Stone deserved it. The story revolves around an elite Team America military squad that travels the world over fighting terrorists. After a team member gets killed, they seek out an actor to be the replacement team member because of his unique "power" to infiltrate the enemy. The recruit also is fluent in many languages, as he so aptly demonstrates as the movie progresses. Parker and Stone have said the main objective of Team America was to make fun of Bruckheimer's films. Along the way, they also roast Ben Afleck, Pearl Harbor, Michael Bey, Michael Moore, and a host of Hollywood liberal activists. Like Southpark Bigger Longer and Uncut, Team America has a humorous musical soundtrack. Many of the TA's songs were on par with Uncle Fucker, which I consider high praise indeed. My wife and I both laughed at numerous scenes in this film which, considering our very different senses of humor (or my wife's damn near complete lack of one), is quite an accomplishment.
I never thought I could be captivated by a movie made with marionettes and I'm glad I was proven wrong. This movie had it all: Chase scenes, martial arts, elements of mystery, and things blowing up (in spades). When one watched the shortened puppet sex scene, it will probably make one wonder just what it was that was cut.
This film has earned the highest praise I can give any film: I'm planning on seeing it again. Soon.
