Okay - I've served in the military and I've jumped out of planes. Though I've never done it personally, I can tell you that the single most dangerous form of insertion (short of landing on a contested beach) is a night jump into dense rain forest. Soldiers simply DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE. Period.
So when the SEALs of "tears" jumped at night into a dense rain forest, and then had to walk 12 miles to the helicopter lz, I made the only logical assumption: the village was exactly 12 miles beyond bingo fuel for the carrier's helos (in other words if the helo went to the village, it would have run out of fuel before getting home). Fine, I can suspend my disbelief.
So they get to the helicopter lz and get on the helo and head for home - a route that brings the helicopter DIRECTLY OVER THE VILLAGE WHERE THE DOCTOR WAS!!!!!! I literally screamed in the movie theater! They do a dangerous night jump and then walk 12 miles IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM THE CARRIER??????? The great big village square where all the bodies were stacked would have been an ideal lz. The helo could have made 6 or 8 trips and evacuated the whole goddam village!!!!!
This is the kind of pathetic screen writing that makes me want to just stop seeing movies. The writer should be castrated and everyone who read the script prior to the film's release without raising this issue with the producer should have their acting or directing licenses revoked.
