"Furthermore, in Ayn Rand's ultimate novel, ATLAS SHRUGGED, the talented individualistic Ayn Rand heroes and heroines withdraw from the world, leaving everyone else to die horribly in the social and political and economic and technological chaos and societal breakdown that follows. That's genocide based on ideas, pure and simple -- true "judging" of people based on their ideas, eh?"

I disagree with your use of the word "genocide."

The reason that the business owners and other productive poeple dropped out of society is because they were sick and tired of the government trying to control their lives.

Throughout the book, many people (politicians, the media, people in acadamia, ordinary citizens, etc) were saying to the business owners and other productive people: "We don't like what you are doing. You exploit us. You take advantage of us. You profit at our expense."

Well, when the business owners and other productive people dropped out of society, their message to the rest of the world was: "OK. Fine. We hear you. We hear your demands. From now on, we will do exactly as you said. We will no longer exploit you. We will no longer take advantage of you. We will no longer profit at your expense."
