It doesn’t take an intellectual giant to understand where Ayn Rand was coming from when she wrote THE FOUNTAINHEAD. All of the social conscious characters in the novel are portrayed as ogres who are out to destroy civilization. Ayn Rand hated altruism in any form. To her, the poor in our society were excess baggage. In her narrow little world there would be no civil rights, no minimum wage laws, and no protection for the common masses who toil for the corporate giants. The seas and lakes and rivers would boil with toxic, industrial waste because there would be no anti-pollution laws. And children would roam the streets because there would be no economic safety net to catch them. I don’t want to live in Ayn Rand’s world. It’s as dark as her prose.
