I don't know about anyone else, but, I get two different feelings about a movie. I have one feeling as I'm viewing it and then the second feeling after I have finished and thought about it for awhile.
I found the film interesting while I was viewing it. Then, unfortunately, I thought about it...BAD IDEA!!!
Other than Cher's character and Luca, you have very little depth to the characters. Maggie plays the character she ALWAYS plays, as did Joan. Judi did a little better...but not much.
When you really think about it...the film stunk. You start a film off with no more than a B- the minute you find out Cher is in it.
What I would do, if I were you...if you have just viewed this film, is to immediately go to your nearest video rental place and rent Hope and Glory or Life is Beautiful.
Was World War II horrible? Of COURSE it was...but it wasn't horrible 24/7, at least not for most europeans. If you believe, like Mr. Cranky seems to believe, that every moment of WWII was like Saving Private Ryan or some other movie, filled with nothing but battles, I suggest you find someone who lived thru it...and ask them
