Eminem buys mansion ROCHESTER HILLS, Michigan (AP) -- Eminem has bought a 29- room, 15,000-square-foot mansion last owned by former Kmart Corp. chairman Chuck Conaway.

The rapper, born Marshall Mathers III, paid nearly $4.8 million for the home, which has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, heated marble floors and Honduras mahogany paneling.

It is located on six acres near Rochester Hills in northeast Oakland County, nearly 20 miles from Detroit and the neighboring blue-collar suburbs where Eminem grew up. Madonna grew up in nearby Rochester.

The mansion sold in February for about $1 million less than the original asking price, according to real estate records The Detroit News cited in a story Tuesday.

Kmart fired Conaway in March 2002, less than two months after the Troy-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. He has been named in pending shareholder and employee lawsuits that sprang from the bankruptcy, in which Kmart closed about 600 of its 2,100 stores -- a move affecting about 52,000 employees.

The News said Conaway's attorney, Scott R. Lassar, did not return a telephone call. Eminem's publicist, Dennis Dennehy, declined to comment on the purchase of the mansion.

The mansion was built in 1988 by former industrialist Rick Bellestri, who was sentenced to five years in prison in 1997 after pleading guilty to tax fraud, racketeering and other charges.

Nice to know that ol' Marshall isn't superstitious or anything, given the history of the previous owners.

All that needed to be added would be if Kobe Bryant had rented it for a month or two.
