Mr. Cranky is dead right. Texas Chainsaw is based loosely on the same subject matter as Psycho (which was also based on Gein). If you've seen Psycho and know the Gein story you can probably see some connections. Silence of the Lambs' Buffalo Bill and the film Deranged are also based on Gein, with Deranged being the most accurate.
