If everyone "got" this film I suppose it wouldn't be the masterpiece that it is. Polished? No. Sophisticated? Nope. Ironic? 'Fraid not. This is an original work. A film that so many others have since "borrowed" from. It's all about mood which this movie creates with its masterful glimpses of depravity and sadism. It's also funny as Hell. I'm thankful for films like this and for the sensory pleasures they give.
