Now I don't feel alone in thinking that scene was bloody (heh-heh) brilliant.
"other movies would have sum dumbass chick running from the killer and fall right on her ass let'n it mutilate her this movie had action, and thrill"
This movie had a whole lot of problems, but that was probably the biggest one in the second half. Not so much that Jessica didn't fall on her ass, but that she got to be a "hero" -- I mean, what the hell was all that running over the Sheriff about? PURE HOLLYWOOD. In the original, nobody gets "revenge" on the family members -- everybody's just running until they're cut up, or, in Marilyn's case, escapes (which was the result of bad luck on Leatherface's part). The original ending was much better, completely anti-Hollywood, with Leatherface doing his little chainsaw symphony, because he was crazy and there was nothing left to do! And Marilyn's run through the woods (which just went on and on and on in a terrifying, heartstopping way) was substantially more frightening than any of the conventional stuff that happens in the new version ("I think I'll hide in the meat... yeah!").
