This movie was (VERY!) loosely based on the exploits of cannibal/arts and crafts hobbyist/serial killer Ed Gein.
Off the top of my head, movies based on ol' Ed include:
Psycho
Deranged
Ed Gein
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Psycho II, III etc.
Psycho- The Remake
Texas Chainsaw Massacre- The Remake
I think there were a bunch of TCM sequels as well.
Have I forgotten any?
I haven't seen any of the remakes or sequels, but IMHO the best of these by far is the little-known Deranged. Fine acting, great script and excellent camerawork, all for a budget that was comparable to that of the original TCM.
