The closest the original movie gets to Ed Gein is that Leatherface wears the preserved faces of previous victims (although he wears them all the time, rather than as a method to change his sex) and the furniture made of various body parts, although he just made chair braces out of strips of skin and a tom tom made of skin streched over the top and bottom of a coffee can.
