10/17/03: Actually, in this particular case, I blame New Line Cinemas

Posted By: Aron

Normally, movies are shipped to theaters the night before so a projectionist can build them up and then the employees watch the movie to make sure there's nothing wrong with the print before they get to the audiences.

In this case (and many others lately), New Line Cinemas was so freaked out about the possibility of somebody recording their precious "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (HEAVEN FORBID!!!) that they sent the print in a couple of hours before the screening, and the projectionist on duty built it up right then, so there was no time for anybody to preview it before it was shown to critics and radio station winners. So as a result of New Line's paranoia, NOBODY got to see it, much less record it. Freakin' morons.

Actually, everything about that scene rocks, though you've got it a little wrong. There's the beautiful, completely inappropriate uptempo song playing in the background as the killers chase the victims around. Then when they finally catch up to the deputy, Zombie holds the camera on that shot FOREVER before he finally lets the killer pull the trigger. I still can't figure out if that was slow motion or if everybody just stood mostly still. It was completely eerie...
