12/11/01: back in the day...

I'm not for socializing healthcare, but I am for some type of reform. I remember back 15 or 20 years ago a health plan gave a person the freedom to go to (alomst) any doctor and get tested (almost) anywhere without any problem. Now they have to call their insurance companies first (or the doctors do) and go out of their way to certain labs to get tests done, etc.

Doctors didn't have to put up with nearly as much beauracratic crap from the HMOs back then (I think). And honestly, if I'm getting treated for something very important, I want my doctor as happy as possible and concentrating on his job, not the crappy HMOs. I thought that's why they (rightly so) get paid so much.

There are some benefits to socializing healthcare, but not nearly enough to sway my opinion. Instead, they should adopt some government policies to cover the areas private health care doesn't touch.
