Havn't seen Thinner. However, you have a good point. Misery made an excellant movie; as did Stand By Me, Shawshank, and the Jack Nicholson Shining (needed better editing though). However, my favorite King books made either a terrible movie (Pet Cemetery...uuuggg) or a mediocre one (IT). Id love to see a top-notch movie adaption of either IT, Pet Cemetery, or The Talisman. A director like Hitchcock (oops, the LATE Hitchcock) could have DONE A DEED with this kind of material!! I wish directors like Speilberg would get out from under the Special Effects and make em like they used to! The FX guys dont even get the credit they deserve! He needs to do another one like Close Encounters! Jurassic Park is fun...but it doesn't leave you with much. Even the Terminator movies had thought-provoking storylines along with the FX.
