Accept the movie and the book for what it is...fantasy and fiction. Don't try to make sense out of a man's destiny... Mr. Cranky you need to relax and enjoy the fantasy world once in awhile and try not to make sense out of senseless things...A man does not always see the danger he is in but senses it and is drawn to it like a magnet...hence in Thinner....
