It is rare when a film as ambitious and groundbreaking as this comes along, so I am always surprized when I hear nothing but complaints for this movie. I feel the complaints are coming mainly from those that really don't understand the films premise.
The Thin Red Line is obviously the best war film since Apocalypse Now. Its beautiful, moving, poetic, brilliant and complex; it begs to be watched many, many times. But some poor saps, such as Mr. Crankey, have only had the opertunity to see this picture once while proceeding to be overwhelmed by the philosophy within and hense giving up on it. This film is about the conflicts between God and mankind, and the delicate contrasts between bliss and insanity. Now tell me... how could a movie dealing with such poingnant subjects in such a beautiful and splendid way be comparible to having utensils shoved in your eye? Give me a break...
