Hello Phoebe - if that is your real name. The Thin Red Line is based on a book of the same name by James Jones, which is just as reflective. James Jones was actually at the battle of Guadalcanal and the booh, and thusly the film, is based on his own experiences. Have you ever been to war? Didn't think so. You're basing your opinion on a bunch of brain dead old buffers who went to war for only one thing, to kill people, guided by misplaced patriotism. Not everyone is like that, thank god. The world needs its poets. Moreover, the film is not an all-out combat film. You said that reflection is impossible in combat - actual combat forms only about 25% of this masterpiece, and in those sequences there is no little reflection, just brilliant cinematography. Anyway, have you ever heard of retrospection? What makes you think these events aren't being looked back on, which is more likely. Lastly, it is a film. Not a documentary. Film making allows you to explore your imagination and mind, not what is solid and real - that can be done in real life. Who wants a film which is just about people shooting each other? I certainly don't, and that is not what The Thin Red Line is about. Just watch it again, and allow your mind to breathe. Thankyou.
