I think it's very interesting the range of responses this film generates. For myself, I think it's one of the best movies I've ever seen--war or otherwise. To me, it's a long cinematic poem, and I would no more expect a traditional plot from it than I would from a poem. But the images are stunning; the musings, appropriate and extremely thoughtful; and the cumulative effective of this film is profoundly moving. The apparent lack of point seems to be the point, and the character of Witt is one of the most humane I have ever come across in film. I have watched this film several times. I never find a second of it boring, and my appreciation for it deepens each time. Thank you, Terrence Malick.
