06/20/1999: Nobody is Clear About Their Points

Posted By: Solaris

Many people are complaining that the ads showed an action movie, but the movie itself wasn't. How does that make the movie bad? No one is giving clear reasons as to why this movie was bad. Everyone is complaining about its length and the philosophical "garbage" that was in it. At least "The Thin Red Line" wasn't bullshit propoganda like "Saving Private Ryan". I'm surprised why so many people love "Ryan" and hate this one. Also, I don't think I'm all "high-brow" just because I liked this movie. I'm a person with average intelligence who enjoys works of art I know I couldn't possibly make. I think many of the people who have posted articles on this page have not seen freelance movies before. This was one of them. This movie was not concerned with a plot, but rather, ideas. This movie was an amazing experience becuase it combined the spontaneities and horrors of war along with the philosophical questions that come with them. I think some of you should rent a Tarkovsky movie. "TLR" reminded me of some of his movies. But Tarkovsky has much more to say and better characters. My favorite movie by him is Solaris.
