01/14/01: I recently started watching Freaks and Geeks.....

I didn't watch it when it was originally on. But I recently started watching it on the Fox Family Channel. They show 2 episodes every Tuesday at 8 P.M Eastern Time.

Yesterday, they had a 7 hour marathon. Unfortunatley, they didn't seem to be playing the episodes in exact order. So that does have a negative effect on seeing it.

But the series itself is great. One of my 3 favorite non-cartoon TV shows ever (the other 2 are My So-Called Life and Magnum P.I.)

Those cltohese that Sam wears? That is *exactly* how I dressed at that time. Of course, I was only 9 then, and he's 14. But they did an excellent job of making it seem like it was 1980-1981.

I did notice one mistake. On the real Atari 2600 Asteroids, the rocks were all solid colors. But when they played it, the rocks were just outlines, like in the arcade version.

I like the reference the the *original* version of Star Wars. "If you don't want to get beat up by the bully, do what Han Solo did with Jabba the Hut - avoid him." Anyone alive today who only saw the special edition of Star Wars would be confused by that.

"We're going to see the Who in a magic bus." "Yeah - a magic *school* bus." Of course, the PBS show Magic School Bus hadn't come out yet, so that was kind of funnny.

"This is supposed to be the Who's last tour ever!" Ha ha!

When Bill was eating Count Chocola, and then he sees that his gym teacher (entering the kitchen in just his underwear and a T-shirt, yawning, with messy hair) had spent the night, and then he sees his mom (in the process of tying her bathrobe) entering the kitchen, and then he sees his gym teacher drinking from the cup that says "Bill" on it..... God, that was powerful.

And when Neal opened up the garage door and saw his father's car in the "other woman's" garage. Oohh, that one had to hurt.

The music on that show sounds like a typical day on WDVE (a Pittsburgh station) from my youth. God, I feel sorry for today's kids, with all the crap they have on the radio today.

Yes, it's true - 20 years ago, it was relatively easy to cut high school, because the doors were unlocked, and there were no security guards. I bet a lot of today's kids might find that hard to believe.

God, that is some great show.
