Strengthened Kurds launching incursions into a NATO ally, a stronger Iran either through the acquisition of the Southern marshlands or undue influence over a puppet state there, a weak, rudderless Central Iraq seeking assistance and alliances amongst Sunni Muslim nations not on the White House Christmas list. I'm sure Bush realised that Saddam is a nasty bit of gear, but a united Iraq is in the US's best interests, and a bogey man with a 'tash that wouldn't be out of place onstage with the Village People is sure handy back home.
