I must say I disagree. After watching this movie (and then buying it), I found this site and was suprised. I thought this was a awesome movie, and the use of torch light was a pleasant suprise.
As to the Beowulf comment, I also noticed many similarities, but also some new modifications.
The darkness serves a the purpose of making the movie seem more dreadly, dark, and scary. Whats the point of having night scenes if it's not dark???
Also, if you've never used a torch (most haven't, but when you forget to pack extra wicks, you learn to do without a lantern), then you don't know how little light they put off.
Again, I thought this was a excellent movie.
