I agree--despite all it's flaws, and there are many, this is my favorite movie. It's all about atmosphere, and escapism, and transportation to another realm. These are my own criteria, and by them, 13th Warrior succeeded. Sure, the editing sucked (does there exist an unedited "director's cut" I can get my hands on?", but the feel of the movie was perfect for me. You can spend days picking this movie apart--I'd agree with you on most of the faults--but in the final analysis it worked for me.
BTW, who is the one actor who was in both movies?
