It does. A genre with seemingly limitless possibilitis repeats itsself to death. Once you've seen every episode of Star Trek, you never need to see any other sci-fi show, because all the plots are the same.
Oh, and time travel is bullshit. Carl Sagan was a bigger cocksucker than liquid-sunshine. Contact was a shitty movie, and if the book is anythign like the film, then Sagan was worse hack than Michael Crichton.
