While the movie was mildly entertaining, it does strain the bounds of credibility.
For example, for a struggling lawyer strapped for cash, Jake is getting around in a pretty flash Saab covertible. Also, would any self respecting criminal lawyer be out on the booze the night before making his closing arguments. And finally, what man would be able to turn down the amorous advances of Sandra Bullock?
But, then who cares about credibility on the big screen.
Leaving aside credibility, for me the highlight of the movie was Elvis' excellent portrayal of the alcoholic divorce lawyer, Harry Rex Vonner.
