07/31/03: It always pisses me off.

But I always feel rather helpless about the whole thing. Ther's really nothing *I* can do, so I save my energy for other things. My political apathy stems not from lack of interest, but from lack of power and control.

The phenomenon of intersexuality (which is biological) completely invalidates their entire argument, though. We like to think of neat little categories like "man" and "woman", "gay" and "straight," but there have always been individuals on the fringe, outside the boundaries of our attempt to construct a perfectly ordered world. "Gay" really has nothing to do with it. The basis of their position is flawed from the start.

I was not trying to be cute or clever; on the contrary, I was posing a serious question. I want to know their position on intersexuals. These people exist. Are we to deny them basic human rights because their biology does not conform to our idea of "nature"?

[For those that don't know, intersexuals (or more popularly, hermaphrodites) are born without a clear gender. They might have both penis and ovaries, vagina and testes, some combination of male and female genitalia, or neither.)]
