...there's really a lot more variables than we usually acknowledge. Now that the idea of a spectrum of human sexuality (as opposed to the two extremes, hetero and homo) is becoming more accepted, I think we'll be hearing a lot more about the differences between sex and gender.
Nonetheless, when it comes to politics, same-sex marriage and its legality will probably never be settled issues. Clearly, when you live in a culture that would be more willing to accept a gay man married to a lesbian simply because they make up the right combination of sexes, it's almost funny to consider all the possible forms a marriage could take.
Hey, did any of you ever see the documentary "Southern Comfort"?
