09/12/1999: I'm back Posted by: m@m.com (Michelle718)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I'm back. I've been on a sort of vacation kind of thing in Utah. About three hours from any sort of civilization. Oh well. I just felt like posting because it's Sunday and I don't have to work so I'm itching for something to do. Maybe I'll go on Mypoints.

09/12/1999: How was the abortion?
Posted by: carlo@www.com (lentil)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wondering.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't get one, I got really sick, miscarried, and then I was hospitalized.

09/12/1999: Well, on the bright side

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At least you didn't have to use a coat hanger like in the old days.

I was actually just poking fun at Michelle, who is obviously lying. I apologize for being offensive.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was funny!

So sorry about it. How are you feeling now?

And are you still going to try to patch things up with your ex?

What the deal? He was being funny. And speaking the truth. Well, maybe I just have a whack sense of humor.

I agree that it was pretty funny.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...IF Michelle was not lying Re: the pregnancy, abortiondescision, and miscarriage, then NO, it was NOT funny.

Unless, of course, you find other people's tragedies amusing...

As I've seen no proof otherwise (although it seems a bit too fortuitous, having what would appear to be a "convienient" miscarriage)unless I missed a thread somewhere, I would have to treat what Michelle has said as the truth.

Sorry to hear it, Michelle...hope you're better, today...

Don't mind the animals...they haven't been fed yet, I imagine...

09/13/1999: Well..*I* thought it was funny.. Posted by: sparkling@aol.com (Emerald)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

..It reminded me of a mother preventing her child from saying a profanity:

(mumble).."Atleast she didn't use a coat hanger like they did in the old days--"

(cuts him off) LENTIL! You scummy piece of shit. Go crawl back into your hole.

"Yes..mother"

HAHA,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...jokes referring to coat-hanger abortions usually have me rolling. The same thing with Hitler, Mussolini, or any given Communist leader.

09/13/1999: Everything is funny!

Even when my mom was gang raped.

C'mon, bring me the love!

...Of course, I KNEW that those kind of responses would come rolling in...

Sad, ennit, how predictable people are...

...that you keep trying to be the moral thermometer.

No matter how predictable it may be, I'm still going to find the sick humor in anything. Just ignore my posts, if you know what's coming.

09/13/1999: It's predictable...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...that YOU'D say that...

Anyone got any Auschwitz Humour? Or something funny to say about racists castrating black men? Or setting gays on fire?

PLEASE, I'm ALL ears...

09/13/1999: I do! I do!

But Mr. Predictable over there will call me a Nazi, so I won't say it.

I think coathanger abortions and torturing gay people go in two different categories. Aborting a fetus with a coathanger used to be a common practice, and I'm sure still is with the lack of abortion clinics around. I think your putting my joke (albiet poor taste) in the same category as Holocaust and black jokes is more offensive than my original joke.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have no desire to start an abortion discussion with this next post, but for some reason I think it'll be inevitable.

Lentil, it is by no means unreasonable to categorize abortion with the Holocaust.

You may call it a fetus, but that is a term that simply desensitizes people to what it really is. No, maybe it isn't a baby because it doesn't share the same characteristics as "true" (out of the womb) babies. However, it IS a human being, just as the Holocaust victims were.

Sure it may not look and act like the human beings that we see walking down the street. But that is for the same reason that a 10 month old child does not look and act like a 30 year old adult. A "fetus" is a human, but simply at a different stage of development than the rest of us.

NO I'm not a self-righteous person sitting atop his high moral horse, and no, I'm not scolding lentil or even angry at him. I'm just stating my side of things like everyone else gets to do in these threads.

By the way, I did find the "Nazi, Racist and Homophobe at the Gates of Heaven" joke somewhat humorous, and I cracked up at the thought of Porky Pig and Elmer.

I have really weird views on abortion because I'm against some aspects, but my sister had one and is very pro choice, so I'm all screwed up. I was actually thinking how it is unfair to classify an abortion with the Holocaust because of the genocide factor. Holocast: many people died horrible, cruel deaths. Abortion: Single fetus (human, baby, whatever) dies relatively painless death. Granted, many abortions happen, but in this context I still think it's unfair to put an abortion joke in the same category as a genocide joke no matter how you slice it.

09/13/1999: One more thing
Posted by: carlo@www.com (lentil)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also made the joke so liberally because of how liberally Michelle is taking the supposed abortion. Here is a post made by her in July that proves how nonchalantly she was taking the whole thing:

http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/haunting/83.html

After considering that post, I decided a small insensitive joke on the matter would hardly hurt her even if the whole business was true.

I guess I'm just a little desensitized on the subject. I mean, I dealt with one in my family, it's always in the news in some matter, and in New York City Subways, there is a big ad campaign that shows random objects (coathanger, power drill, chopsticks, etc) and simply says "Pro-Choice". I thought those were some clever ads, but in the sensitive world of Mr Cranky's I guess I got overzealous.

09/14/1999: Differences

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a very real difference between joking about a horrible thing that happened sometime in the past and is unlikely to have a direct connection to most people present, and joking about something that may have happened recently to the person you are making the joke to.

I am of the camp that believes that Michelle is a troll. I think it's pretty probable she made up the story about the abortion. But it's not a certainty. And even if she was treating the subject lightly, and joking about it herself, doesn't mean it wasn't real, or that it is not hurtful for others to joke about it. I've made light of some miserable aspects of my life in these forums before. I may have ended the posts with 8^), but sometimes we all use humor as an escape mechanism. If you can't help it, might as well laugh at it, if it makes you feel better.

There is a chance that Michelle really was considering an abortion, maybe decided not to, then lost the fetus anyway. In that case, making fun of her abortion is just as bad as making a joke about Auschwitz to someone who claimed to have lost relatives there.

OK, and since nobody made any jokes about the Holocaust or homosexuals or racists (the Heaven one doesn't count in my book), I shall be forced to return to my role as Crankyland Repository for Extremely Tasteless Jokes and tell a few.

Here about the AIDS hospice they are building in the top of the Reunion Tower (a Dallas landmark)?

They are calling it Sick Fags Over Texas.

Didja know the Germans invented the microwave?

Yep, early models seated twenty.

Why shouldn't you run over a little black kid on a bicycle?

The bike might be yours.

I know a lot more, but I must be getting old or something because I couldn't bring myself to post the more insensitive ones. Sorry.
