03/13/98: Wait a moment, you impostor!

You cannot play games with my name.

My name is my own, and I glory in its resonance.

I glory in the sounding of it, and in its repeated initials.

I glory in its incorporation of "man," because I incorporate all men in my being.

I glory in it, and I will defend it to the last.

My name is my own, and I glory in its resonance.

I glory in the works it denotes in the minds of my readers.

I glory in the images it conveys in the minds of my hearers.

I glory in my name, and I will not see it traduced.

I will not see it traduced by a specter of shame and tawdry gifts.

I will not see it traduced by a specter who knows not the meter nor rhythm of my verse.

I glory in my name. I worked hard to make and preserve it.

I will not see it traduced.
