Thanks, Nastenka, for that interesting point. I'm sure everyone here has no problem believing that the media might misrepresent an issue.
I still think that these schooling problems could be largely solved by increasing the base teacher salary - the most qualified individuals don't want to be teachers, because the pay isn't worth the hassle. Our society pays our most important workers - police, firefighters, teachers, etc. - the least money, because they can't compete for customers like doctors or lawyers can.
