I must admit, I agree with you about preferring to be able to plan a message out ahead of time. That's why I like IRC better than ICQ (*hears -sOc- and Molly groaning*), because you still have the real-time element but you have the advantage of being able to review a line before sending it.
Also, with IRC, it just seems easier to phase in and out of the conversations, which I do quite a lot, but for some reason I feel self-conscious about it in ICQ. But everyone else seems to like (or at least "tolerate more") ICQ.
But, as for doing all this from work, you're right. I can't imagine your boss being happy about having ICQ on the computers.
Also, we try to keep the conversations varied. And except for the occasional outburst of The Kinky Online Sex Game, nothing too perverted is going on :)
So, if you ever get a chance to use the Internet away from work, maybe you'd join us sometime?
