If you're going to bitch and moan that Arabs shouldn't judge American soldiers by the actions of a few (the Abu Ghraib guards), then you shouldn't judge Muslims in the same manner (al Qaeda). If you're going to wave the flag and say the US has higher standards, then stand behind those sentiments when they're called to the mat. Otherwise, you're a hypocrite.
It is very important to remember that the US took the moral highground for the reason that eye for an eye vengence gets humanity nowhere. It just turns into an endless cycle. So, in realizing this, America touted that it took a more Christian approach to violence against it, not necessarily by turning the other cheek, but by not being aggressive unless provoked. Also, the US placed itself above so-called "brutal" nations by saying we were a more evolved society in which such brutal tactics were not necessary; that we could accomplish more by using our minds rather than our brawn. Bush attacking Iraq was the first blow to America's Moral High Ground and the abuse of prisoners by the military is the second. There's no denying those to facts. Unless you prefer to wear blinders...
Personally, I don't want to see the video though I support the public's access to it. I have enough of an active imagination to put the pieces together from the descriptions I've read. I don't even like to see animals tortured, so I know this would be even harder for me to stomach. I don't need to see it to be horrified, and saddened, and pissed off that we've been put into this position for no reason other than someone's ego...
