01/04/02: People Are Too Critical Of This Movie! (Spoilers)

First off I would like to say that this is an alright movie, not a great movie. I want to see the Spanish version for comparison.

After reading quite a few of the posts for this movie, I don't think the majority understood the ending (even though it is almost spoon-fed to you). At the very end, he wakes up to a woman (almost like Cameron Diaz's voice) saying "Open your eyes". Just like his alarm clock! This leaves the movie with a few intriguing questions.

So if he had forgotten to fix his alarm clock and was waking back up to present day reality, which part of his life did he actually live? Had he actually killed Sophia, or was it just the morning after the party where he had just met her?

It seems that most people took the movie at face value and accepted that he was 150 years in the future. No wonder you really hated it!

There are a few underlying themes. For one, the bitter versus the sweet in life. This is where the title comes from (I think) b/c vanilla is neither bitter nor sweet. Cruises friend in the movie had accused him of having neither in his life "You have to know the bitter to enjoy the sweet". Maybe Cruises character had finally experienced the bitter in his life so that he could enjoy the sweet.

Those are a few of my thoughts, and again, I'm not giving this movie a rave review, but think twice before you criticize it.
