Neville Chamberlain was not some spineless cowardly PM. He just did what the great majority of the peoples of Western Europe wanted: no more war! That is why most people cheered him (and not just the queen) on his return from Munich. Only Churchill was realistic enough to see Hitler would still start another war.
BTW, some British critics say Churchill didn't do that much for Britain. Sure, he got US aid, but in return he squandered the great British empire by signing the Atlantic Charter in 1942. The deconstruction of the empire was Britain's downfall.
