Just watched Vertigo and although it was somewhat entertaining and moved along well, really don't get it being considered a masterpiece.
"Scottie" is suppose to be a detective but follows the person he is tailing by about 30-40 yards. Parks in plain vies of the person he following. (Yes, I know she wants to be followed--but he doesn't know that at the time.)
He is suppose to be protecting his friend's wife, and allows himself to fall in love with her. Dialog is stilted and Stewart starts yelling at her periodically. He doesn't recognize in her eyes or mannerisms that Judy is really Madeline???
How does the husband get his wife to the bell-tower with no one noticing. They perform an autopsy and don't notice she was already dead before the fall? They hide on the roof at a crime scene and no one sees them? She is willing to be a stooge and let a man kill his wife, says she has been "picked up" many times, but out of the blue is scared by a nun into killing herself???
