The boy's father, woken from slumber
By agonized cries begging for assistance,
Looks down and sees his beloved son
Spiraling, weeping, plummeting down
To be swallowed by Poseidon's waters.
Knowing deep in his soul that
His son is lost forever, he dives toward him
In a fruitless effort to avoid the tragic loss.
Throwing prayers to Zeus and others,
He can but watch as his only son drowns.
Flowing tears as his son had molten feathers, and
Cursing the furies, he groans and wails.
But knowing that to follow his son
Would be folly, the man slowly rises again,
And flies on
Leaving only grief and sorrow behind.
