Dag the Wog. it was like a Bizzaro world view of the United States in the last few months. I think Hollywood is getting a little bit too big for it's britches, thinking that it can stage global politics like some ad campaign for Life Insurance. Some of the trite emotional manipulation and gimmicks that spin PhD's pull on us are so snidely exposed in this flick, and I probably should have taken some notes! Especially with Dennis Leary rambling on about the marketing tie-ins and merchandise that America tastelessly spews out whenever a big event happens. Pretty Little girls, kittens, puppies, sugary sentiment, common-sense farmer anecdotes and jingoistic words & symbols are all employed to make men proud and patriotic and reduce women to tears. Manufacturing consent.
But I think we're too sophisticated to fall for the bullshit that politicians and Hollywood pull on us these days. Were too savvy and hip to the ying and yang cycle of spin and hype. The exact opposite results happened in real life. Bush didn't get re-elected for starting a war and Bill got even higher approval ratings for having the sex drive of Charlie Sheen. I guess you never can tell what will be popular. I'm glad Godzilla fell flat on it's face and Armageddon may too. Just give me a slogan, a song, a tear-jerking sentiment, a gimmick and a catchphrase, and maybe a collectors cup at McDonalds and I can have you believe anything.
