Even without using dollar figures, the fact is that today, the average person in the world eats more calories of food than ever before, has more square footage of housing than ever before, has more access to medical care and education than ever before, owns more material possessions then ever before, and has a higher life expectancy than ever before. All of these things are better now than they have ever been at any time in the entire history of the human race.

It does not matter what kinds of dollar figures or GNP you are using. Plenty of countries with very high population densities have a first world standard of living. And plenty of countries with very low population densities have a third world standard of living. Even if you don't measure it in dollar figures or GNP figures, it's very easy to determine that the quality of life in Singapore (with a very high population density) is far superior to the quality of life in Ethiopia (with a low population density).

I don't think I've seen you here before. Welcome to Crankyland.
