and also an all-time overall fave song of mine - "Levon".
Of course, there's that category of "sad" songs which reminds you of an ex-love or some emotional roller-coaster time or kinda just sounds like whoever is singing the song wrote the song based on some doomed relationship. (ever notice these are some of the songs you sing the loudest sometimes by yourself?)
Some "sad songs" from the good ol' high school days....and YES, you may all feel free to chuckle over these late 70's tunes.
"Chuck E.'s In Love" - Rickie Lee Jones - a great song about denial.....with one of the all-time funkiest scat beats, which makes it a fave of mine to sing (LOUDLY...)
"Heard It in A Love Song" - Marshall Tucker Band - OH YEAH, I'm really showing my age here. Yup, I still have a soft spot for southern rock, especially this band.
"Landslide" - Stevie Nicks - More a song about moving on, growing up and letting go, but knowing it's based on Stevie Nicks ending her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham, ahhhhhhhhhh.....I just love the hell out of this song. Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins did a cover of this song which is HIDEOUS.
AND while I'm on a nostalgic roll here - let me go WAY back to when I was about 8 or 9 years old - I always used to turn melancholy hearing the simple, yet powerful lyrics/melody of Dion's ode to "Abraham, Martin and John"
YEAH, I can SEE you guys rolling your eyes. :-)
