02/09/05: It's Ward Churchill, FYI

His point was that since America imposes it's empire through the barrel of a gun, Americans shouldn't be surprised when the people they are oppressing attack them in kind.

The piece was written three years ago in the wake of 9/11, and nobody wrote about it except some liberal Vermont paper, which was rather aghast at the implication that America might not have 100% pure intentions vis-a-vis the rest of the world.

But he's probably the most famous American Indian academic, and was going to speak at some liberal east coast college, when the local GOP tools did some digging into his background and found the "Sometimes they push back" piece. They got on the phone with Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, and the smear machine went to work. His history with the American Indian Movement makes him a natural target.
