no idea. If pressed I'd have to say something like, it's the most common/important verb and probably one of the earliest to develop as a language develops, and thus won't be as 'standardized' as verbs that came later. Or perhaps it's just that it needs to be less ambiguous. There's probably a better forum out there for this kind of thing...
