How can he criticize The Sound of Music for having "singing for no reason" and give it 3 bombs yet West Side Story receives only 1? Um, sorry Mr. Cranky, but many of the songs in The Sound of Music were done in a very believable performance setting and didn't come out of the blue like in West Side Story. The whole idea of gangsters singing is ridiculous and why on earth would someone be singing about being pretty? Don't get me wrong, this is a very, very well made film, it's just that your standards for judging musical films seems to waver from one review to the next.
