I think it could be done. You would just need to have both the writing skills of the folks at Might who did the Adam Rich death hoax and the internet savy of the people who did that Britney Spears death hoax.

On 9/11, I thought that someone was doing a Mercury Theater type thing. I didn't work until 1pm that day, so the first I heard about it was on the radio during the drive to work @12:30. It sounded so preposterous - 'the Twin Towers are gone, the Pentagon has huge hole in it and the rest of it is on fire' - that I thought I'd unknowingly switched radio stations to some weird dramatization (or "comedy" sketch).
