John Coleman (meteorologist)

John Coleman is an American meteorologist and the founder of The Weather Channel.

Coleman started his career at WCIA (TV) in Champaign, Illinois, doing weekend weather and a local show called At The Hop. He later became the weather anchor for WCIA's sister station WMBD-TV in Peoria, Illinois, and later weather anchor for WMAQ-TV and WLS-TV and weatherman on New York television and on Good Morning America for seven years.

During his time at Chicago's WLS-TV, Coleman was one of Chicago's most popular meteorologists, famous for his amusing and irreverent style. He popularized the words "thorms" and "thowers" to represent thunderstorms and thundershowers.

After founding and leaving The Weather Channel, Coleman became weather anchor at independent television station KUSI-TV in San Diego, California as his "retirement job". Coleman is a vocal climate change skeptic who believes that global warming "is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam."

Coleman had the original idea for the Weather Channel, which would have ONLY included national weather, and none of the edutainment segments the Weather Channel is known for. Also, it was the media company he convinced to fund his idea that insisted on the regional and local weather segments that make it indispensible to viewers. Coleman ran the Weather Channel millions into debt early on, before he was forced out. It was only after Coleman was given the push that the Weather Channel righted itself and became a success.

Bottom line: Coleman is just a cheezy, over-the-hill weatherman, who had a good idea, but couldn't carry it off on his own. He is no more an expert on global warming than that happy talk bozo who is hamming it up during the weather segment on your local news channel. And that is exactly what he has been doing, in San Diego, since getting dumped from the Weather Channel.

As Lewis Black said, the easiest job in the world is being a weatherman in San Diego.
