04/08/00: The Jealous Ogre: A Free Verse Poem.

In the cyberland of Cranky there lived a jealous ogre who looked down upon all the inhabitants from his ivory tower. His heart was made of syllogism, his soul of dusty facts, and when the forums rang with laughter he’d summon-up his axe.

“Be quiet down there,” he’d shout with hate at sounds of jubilation,”I’ll have no joy, unless it’s mine, in my fuzzy-logic nation.”

The shadow he cast across the land did darken every thread, and caused the ogre’s ego to swell to match his head. His empire stretched for many a post, in forums far and wide, there was no place to dance and sing, there was no place to hide. He formed a band of monkey trolls to insure his domination, and sent them out to quash all joy in his fuzzy-logic nation.

But one bright day there came a sound of lightness pure and sweet, the ogre frowned his furry brow, and stamped his thorny feet.

“I can’t have this display of joy, it’s against my made up law,” the ogre lowered his hideous head, and closed his tensed up jaw.

“Bring me my cape of flayed posters, bring me my books of facts,” the ogre strode onto the thread, and launched his first attack.

“I love free speech, as long as it’s mine,” the ogre did pronounce.

“Fuck you jackass,” the poster said, “You’re not credible one ounce.”

The ogre twirled and thought a while, his brain began to labor, “I know,” he thought, “I’ll try empathy, this fight will turn in my favor.” So he posted a review of his latest read, a boring, overlong, eye-glazer.

A laugh rang out, so high and shrill, that the ogre covered his ears, “I’ve never read such contrived crap in all my 23 years.”

A chorus of giggles began to swell up from the depths of Crankyland, he’s a fool one said, what a schmuck said another, I can’t believe we trusted in this mother.

So the evil ogre was driven from Crankyland by the joy of dissident posters; like Gump, and Simon, and liquid-sunshine, and a host of unknown others.
