Bowling for Columbine's deeper message was American's are afraid of unreasonable things, and need guns to protect themselves from people who fear other unreasonable things. Canada doesn't have the fear we have, so their shootings are almost in the single digits. Fahrenheit is similar, but shifts the blame not only on fear, but on greed.
Yoda said it best: "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering."
