02/21/00: ally mcbeal-inspired potentially (but not probably) controversial questions

Posted By: Pseudonym

okay, tonight on ally mcbeal (i know, i know, please don't flame me. i just can't help it. i also watch dawson's creek. i'm like a tv junkie, but addicted to the really CHEAP shit)... anyway, tonight on ally mcbeal, she met and poured coffee over and kissed this guy who she first thought was a coffee shop employee, and he turns out the coffee shop OWNER, and THEN she finds out that he's actually a JUDGE. and then she falls for him. and then he tells her that he's bisexual. and she won't go out with him anymore.

so here were the questions presented in this episode:

1)if you were a somewhat successful professional (in this case, a lawyer) would you accept a date from someone whose career was, say, serving cappucino to you every morning? or what about a janitor, fast food worker, pizza delivery guy, etc?

2)if you later found out that this person only worked in this lowly position as a sort of hobby (i know, i know, it's a stretch), and actually OWNED the coffee shop (or whatevet), would you reconsider dating him/her?

3)if you found out that this person actually ranked HIGHER than you in your own profession, would you reconsider dating him/her?

4)so what if this person turned out to be bisexual? would you pursue a relationship or decide to cut it off before it even really starts?

we discussed this in depth (because it was more interesting than the episode itself). i mean, just as observers, we were sort of bothered by the idea of a lowly coffee shop employee kissing her-- but when we found out he was actually a judge, we thought it was sort of sweet.

-- anyway, i just wondered what other people had to say --

Pseu
