02/23/00: Well...

... I'm not saying that they deserve that amount of money for what they actually do or their talents (or lack thereof in some cases), but NBC is sure making a lot of dough out of it, several times more than what they pay them. Furthermore, "Friends" is one of NBC's last strongholds, as NBC is starting to lose ratings to ABC. So, speaking in business terms only, they do deserve a bigger chunk of the pie if they want to. Don't feel sorry for NBC.

On the other hand, yes, it is ridiculous that people in the entertainment business get paid as much as they do. Then again, consider that most of them will be unemployed at any moment, so they try to get the riches before their career fades. But all in all, it is not as ridiculous as most execs make, particularly those who manage the entire entertainment business. Those are the guys charging us $16 for a CD when they could be charging $5 and still have a multi-millionaire profit. The same guys who have driven the sales of movie tickets up $1 or more in the last year, when they could be charging half. Come on, it may be ridiculous that the guys of "The Blair Witch Project" got $1 m for it, but Artisan has made nearly $200 m. out of it so far.

So I've got bigger fish to fry...
